Harassment of Journalist in Brazil
The Committee to Protect Journalists condemns the harassment of
journalists reporting on corruption in the Brazilian state of ParanĂ¡ and
calls on authorities to ensure their safety. A Brazilian journalist has gone into hiding after receiving death
threats, while at least four others from a daily news outlet said they
have been constantly harassed by police, according to the reporters and
their employers.
In 2011, a Berlin journalist Michael Moore came to visit about a project about piracy in Somalia.
There he was kidnapped for 32 months. The reason for his captivity was due to a flurry of horror stories from the East African famine last year, it
occurred to me that quieter stories about how to revive Somalia have
gone unnoticed," Michael wrote. A number of land-based pirate kidnappings in Kenya the previous year led
to an invasion by Kenyan forces of southern Somalia, where the Islamist
group al-Shabaab held power.
